So you want to be an Early Settler?!

For ages 6 – 8

Spend the week experiencing life in Canada circa 1840, learning the family activities, chores and pastimes of the day. See if you have the skills, patience and tenacity to survive! Activities will focus on food, farming, clothing, entertainment and home life. One afternoon will be spent at the Elora Centre for the Arts, learning about pioneer paint! You will never be bored again after a week as an early settler. Wednesday afternoon we will take part in the Simple Pleasures presentation of Pioneer Music and Dance with Marty Pullen. Please bring a water bottle, snacks and a bag lunch.

WEEK 1, July 11 - 15, 2011

Survival Guide to the Middle Ages

For ages 8 – 12

Each day this week we will explore a component of life in the middle ages – looking at social structure, arts & culture, military action, foodways and clothing. This year’s programme is a great follow-up to last year’s Introduction to Archaeology. One afternoon will be spent at the Elora Centre for the Arts, learning to make clay pots. Wednesday afternoon we will take part in the Simple Pleasures activity of herbal remedies from the garden, using many recipes from the middle ages. Please bring a water bottle, snacks and a bag lunch.
