International Museum Day

May 18, 2010

Since 1977, International Museum day has been celebrated around the world. Conceptualized by the International Council of Museums , the events planned around the world are meant to reflect the organization’s motto:

Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, co-operation and peace among peoples.

This year the theme for the day is “Museums for Social Harmony”. This gives us all an opportunity to reflect on our common past, shared memories and hopes for our collective futures.

At the Wellington County Museum & Archives, the day will be marked with an open-house and free admission. The storage building, historic barn and several storage areas within the museum will be open to the public from 10 am to 2 pm. Visitors are also invited to a 1:30 pm presentation by “Older Voices”; a first person conversation about the importance of local history!
